thank you for your post,
I have a simple question and hope that you answer me, I have to connecte oracle
10g to heterogenous database "sqlserver" on windows. So I do what you say on
server X whitch contain oracle database and dsn for sqlserver.
But It does'nt work for me, when I do select * from table_name@name_link I
got
ORA-12154: TNS : could not resolve the connect identifier specified

Hello, Fadoua,

You need to configure your tnsnames.ora file to point at the
oracle listener of the Heterogeneous service.

Cheers,

Great article! Thanks for sharing. I have tricked around with similar
installation on Linux.
Another catcha is to be very careful reading the installation guide on the GNS
and SCAN part. I failed to do so and my installation went horrible because I
didn't understand the concepts at first, which led to wrong assumptions, which
led to a failing installation. I had to do the whole thing over again...
Thanks again for sharing!

There is something that I can't seem to understand: what does ASMlib has to
do with OCR and Voting Disk?
I've setted up a 11gR2 RAC on RHEL 5 with OCFS2 and used raws for my ASM DGs
and everything worked fine. I've even created volumes and ACFS mount
points.
I don't get why mix ASMlib and quorum. Please explain. Thanks.

Hello, LMC

With Oracle 11gR2, you can store the voting disks, as well as
the OCR, within an ASM volume.

No need to ask for n raw volumes on a SAN from the sysadmins.
Besides, as of 11gR2, Oracle prefers block devices over raw, contrarily to past
usage.
